Speke stabbing death: Man arrested on suspicion of murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found with multiple stab wounds at a house in Liverpool.

Merseyside Police found Shirley Mercer, 43, in the hallway of the property in Tewitt Hall Close, Speke, on Friday.

She was taken with head and upper body injuries to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police said a 52-year-old man remains in custody.
