Suspicious package in Kirkdale: Device found 'not viable'

Merseyside Police have recovered a suspicious package for forensic examination after bomb disposal experts said it was not a "viable" device.

Around 90 homes were evacuated and roads were closed after a report that a package had been found in Woodbine Street, Kirkdale at 02:30 GMT.

The Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit examined the object and said it "was found not to be viable".

Road closures in the nearby cordoned off area have been lifted.

Liverpool City Council opened Kirkdale Community Centre and Everton Park Sports Centre in Great Homer Street for affected residents.
