Murder arrest over Whiston pedestrian death

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of a pedestrian who was killed when he was hit by a car on Merseyside.

The 52-year-old man was knocked down by a silver Renault Mégane in Scott Avenue, Whiston in Knowsley at about 09:00 GMT.

The man was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead later.

A 33-year-old man from Whiston has been arrested and a car has been seized by police for examination.

Detectives believe the pedestrian and the driver of the car were known to each other.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said officers were investigating if the car was deliberately driven at the man.
