A man has died after being found with stab wounds at a Merseyside house, sparking a murder inquiry.

Jonathan Britton was attacked at his house in Paton Close, West Kirby, at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday, police said.

The 43-year-old was taken to hospital but died a short time later. A post-mortem examination is being carried out to establish the cause of his death.

A 38-year-old man from the Tranmere area of Birkenhead has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The road has been cordoned off for a forensic examination of the area and police are conducting house-to-house inquiries.

Det Insp Mark Tivendale said: "This has been a terrible incident for the family of Mr Britton. They are understandably devastated.

"This attack happened in a very quiet residential area of West Kirby," he added.
