Merseyside Police has arrested 53 people in a crackdown on gang and gun crime.

The operation, since Thursday, involves drugs offences, gun crime, violent disorder, assault and money laundering.

Officers have also uncovered a £60,000 cannabis farm in Kirkdale and seized class A drugs in Toxteth.

Supt Paul White, said: "The force has made significant inroads into disrupting gun crime and taking guns off the streets."

He added: "There is still a significant amount of work to be done and proactive initiatives like this one will keep offenders on the back foot and give us the opportunity to disrupt criminal gangs involved in the use of firearms."
