Wirral house fire: Woman found dead in lounge

A woman's body has been found following a house fire in Merseyside.

Firefighters found the victim after they extinguished the fire in the lounge of the property in Village Road, Higher Bebington, Wirral, on Sunday.

Fire crews were called at about 17:50 GMT to reports of smoke at a house, but they discovered it was coming out of another property in the street.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service have launched an investigation and Merseyside Police have been informed.

Station manager Barry Moore said: "Sadly, during a search of the property the body of an adult woman was found. Merseyside Police has been informed along with our Incident Investigation Team."
