A 47-year-old man has been charged with murdering a man who was found stabbed on a Merseyside street.

Dennis O'Neill, of Old Chester Road, Rock Ferry, is accused of murdering James Byrne, 38, from Birkenhead.

Mr Byrne was found at the junction of Old Chester Road and Well Lane in Rock Ferry on Sunday. He later died in hospital.

Mr O'Neill was remanded in custody by Wirral Magistrates' Court to Liverpool Crown Court on 8 October.

Steven Johnson, 45, of Rock Ferry, has been charged with perverting the course of justice in relation to the death.
