Two men have been arrested following the death of a man who was found with stab wounds on a Merseyside street.

The 38-year-old was found at the junction of Old Chester Road and Well Lane in Rock Ferry on Sunday evening. He died later in hospital.

Two men, aged 45 and 47, from Birkenhead were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Det Ch Insp Tracy Hayes said the man's death was believed to have "followed an argument" with an attacker who he knew.

An area of Old Chester Road was cordoned off while forensic inquiries were carried out. Officers have also examined CCTV from nearby shops and carried out house-to-house enquiries.

Ms Hayes said: "I'm sure local residents would agree that the persons responsible for this attack need to be brought to justice.

"I would ask anyone who has any information about this incident to get in contact."
