Birkenhead man in court over explosives probe

A man from Merseyside has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on terrorism charges.

Ian Forman, 41, of Prenton, Birkenhead is accused of engaging in conduct in the preparation of terrorist acts.

He appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday and is due at the Old Bailey on 20 September.

A 41-year-old man, from Manchester, who was arrested over concerns about chemical and explosive substances at a house in Wirral, has been bailed.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries until 31 October.

Mr Forman, who lives on Shavington Avenue, is charged under section five of the Terrorism Act 2006.

The two arrests took place on Thursday by officers from the North West Counter Terrorism Unit, assisted by officers from Merseyside Police and Greater Manchester Police.
