A community centre is being opened in memory of murdered Liverpool teenager Joseph Lappin.

The 16-year-old army cadet from Old Swan was stabbed outside Shrewsbury House youth club in Everton in October, 2008.

The new centre will be officially opened by Joseph's mother Toni and the Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson.

The centre in Mill Lane, Old Swan, will have activities ranging from mother and toddler groups to business training.

'Positive memorial'

"I hope our residents will come together to take full advantage," said Mrs Lappin.

Mr Anderson added: "It is going to be a positive memorial to Joseph who lost his life in such tragic circumstances."

Joseph was visiting the club for the first time with friends to watch a band practice when he was attacked by a gang of 10 youths and men.

James Moore, 17, was jailed for a minimum of 17 years after admitting his murder while nine others were jailed after admitting conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.
