The partner of a man who died when his lorry overturned on a motorway slip road has paid tribute to "his witty charm and cheeky smile".

Officers were called to the East Lancs Road, Norris Green at about 06:00 GMT on 28 January after reports of an accident on the slip road to the M57.

Police said Thomas John Bate, 35, from Kirkby, Liverpool, died at the scene.

His partner, Melanie Wilson, 41, from Kirkby, said he "loved life and lived it to the full".

She said: "He loved going on holiday, playing football and watching his beloved Liverpool FC with his friends.

"I will always miss him and he will always be in my heart.

"He was my rock and my soul mate."
