A 96-year-old man who was attacked at his sheltered home on Merseyside died of natural causes, a post-mortem examination has found.

Harold Dean suffered serious injuries at his home on Freshfields Close, Huyton, on 28 November and died in hospital on Tuesday.

Maria Spencer, 50, of Chestnut Road, Walton, has been charged with assault.

She was remanded in custody until 14 December at Knowsley Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Mr Dean suffered injuries to his head and body in the attack and was taken to hospital, where he later died.
