Man, 96, dies after home assault in Huyton

A 96-year-old man has died in hospital nearly a week after he was attacked at his sheltered home on Merseyside.

Harold Dean suffered serious injuries in the assault in Huyton on Wednesday, police said.

Maria Spencer, 50, from Liverpool, was remanded in custody until 14 December after being charged with assault.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on Mr Dean, who had three children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ms Spencer, of Chestnut Road, Walton, appeared at Knowsley Magistrates' Court on Friday accused of assaulting Mr Dean at his home in Freshfield Close.
