Escaped prisoner hid in Royal Liverpool hospital roof
A prisoner escaped from a Liverpool hospital ward while receiving treatment and hid in the floor's roof space, police confirmed.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, was at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in the custody of officers when he absconded at 11:30 BST.
Merseyside police said the man did not leave the building at any time and officers worked to minimise disruption.
At 13:30 BST, the man was detained and arrested by police at the scene.
A police spokesman said no-one was injured in the incident and officers remained in contact with the man at all times.
He said he could not confirm which prison the man was from.
"A highly visible police presence is currently outside the hospital to reassure the public," he added.
