A victory parade was held for Warrington Wolves as they brought the Carnegie Challenge Cup back to the town for the third time in four years.

The rugby league heroes, who beat Leeds 35-18 at Wembley, toured the town on an open-top bus on Sunday afternoon.

The parade started at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub at 16:00 BST and ended at the Town Hall.

Fans saw the Mayor of Warrington officially welcome the team back to their home soil.

Warrington Council said the bus travelled down the A49 with the players and the cup to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

'All special'

It then made its way through the town centre, past the bus interchange, along Scotland Road, Academy Way, Barbauld Street, Wilson Patten Street, Winmarleigh Street and finally turned on to Sankey Street and to the Town Hall.

Wolves coach Tony Smith said it was great to win another Challenge Cup at Wembley.

"Any occasion here at Wembley - they are all special, to separate any of them wouldn't do it justice. It's fantastic, I'm really pleased.

"A lot of hard work has gone into it, and the players who were on the bench that didn't get a chance, they have contributed too."
