Thousands of people took part in the Liverpool Pride 2012 festival in the city on Saturday.

The annual free event this year adopted a nautical theme to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) culture.

The festival, which attracted about 52,000 people, featured a parade and events at Stanley Street Quarter and Liverpool Pier Head.

X Factor star Marcus Collins performed on an outdoor stage.

A festival spokesman said: "It was a great event, a lovely family day out enjoyed by all."

The march was led by former government minister and Wallasey MP Angela Eagle, who has also become the first patrol of the festival.

Stanley Street was closed to traffic throughout the day.
