Bootle shooting: Man shot in 'targeted' attack

A 29-year-old man has been shot at by four men while sitting in a car in a Merseyside car park, said police.

The victim was shot in his chest and leg while in the car park at the Orrell Road and Harris Drive junction in Bootle at about 16:00 BST.

Police believe the four men were in a silver vehicle and shot the man with what appears to be a handgun in a targeted attack.

Police said he is being treated in hospital and is in a stable condition.

House-to-house inquiries are being carried out, CCTV is being sought and crime scene investigators are examining the area.

Patrols have also been stepped up in the area.

Supt Paul White said: "This was an extremely reckless act that could have had tragic consequences.

"Firing a weapon so close to a park during the daytime when it is the school holidays is absolutely despicable and we urge the community to tell us who was responsible so we can take robust action against them."
