Two boys have been arrested on suspicion of assault and robbery after a Merseyside boy was attacked and left critically ill.

Marcos Ringle, 16, suffered serious head injuries during the attack in Coronation Road, Crosby, on Sunday.

His parents, Keith and Anne Ringle, said he was an "innocent victim of a brutal unprovoked attack".

The two boys, a 16-year-old from Walton and a 16-year-old from Kirkby, are being questioned by police.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said Marcos remained in a "critical but stable condition" in hospital.

His bike, a present for his 16th birthday on Thursday which he had been riding at the time of the attack, was found in Roxburgh Street, Kirkdale, on Monday.
