Boy, 11, critically injured by car in St Helens collision

Two children were injured, one of them critically, when they were hit by a car in Merseyside.

A boy and girl, both aged 11, were hit by the car near the junction of Dunriding Lane, St Helens, around 18:00 GMT on Sunday.

The boy is described as critical in Alder Hey Hospital. The girl's injuries are not life-threatening.

Police said a man, aged 24, was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit and under the influence of drugs.
