Man held on suspicion of murder after two women stabbed

A man is being questioned on suspicion of murder and attempted murder

A man has been arrested after a 19-year-old woman was stabbed to death and a 60-year-old woman seriously injured in Liverpool.

Police were called to Hill Street, Toxteth at about 15:50 GMT on Saturday by neighbours.

Natalie O'Donoghue and her mother Violet Burns were taken to hospital but Miss O'Donoghue died. Ms Burns is critical but stable, police said.

The man, aged 50, was held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

A post mortem examination has concluded Miss O'Donoghue died as a result of blood loss following a single stab wound.
