Evacuation over chemicals in flat in Aigburth

Residents in Liverpool are still waiting to hear when they can return to their homes after police discovered suspicious chemicals at a flat.

At least 30 people have been told to leave their flats in a large building in Ullet Road, Aigburth.

Nearby roads were cordoned off after the discovery on Saturday night. The cordon was reduced but has since been reinstalled while officers move the chemicals.

A 60-year-old man is in custody.

Parts of Linnet Lane, Aigburth Drive, Ullet Road and East Albert Road have been affected.

No-one was injured and a police spokesman said the removal of the chemicals had no impact on nearby primary schools.
