Five children taken to hospital after fire in Liverpool

Five children have been taken to hospital after a fire broke out at their neighbour's home in Liverpool.

Crews were called to Guilsted Road in Norris Green at 0545 BST.

Nobody was in the terraced house at the time but the family next door were alerted to the blaze when their smoke alarm went off.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident, a Merseyside Police spokeswoman confirmed.

Four children, aged three to eight, from the next-door house and a 14-month-old baby from another property were taken to Aintree hospital for a check-up, the fire service said.

A 40-year-old man was also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
