Police officer questioned over Formby pub fight death
A 26-year-old questioned over the death of a man after a pub fight was an off-duty police officer, it has emerged.
The Merseyside police officer was questioned on suspicion of murder following the death of 42-year-old Christopher Shackleton.
He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Mr Shackleton was taken to hospital after the disturbance at the Freshfield Hotel on Massams Lane in Formby on 24 July but died shortly afterwards.
A post-mortem examination showed he died of a stroke, the cause of which is still under investigation.
Merseyside Police has referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
