A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after "reportedly being pushed into a fire", Greater Manchester Police said.

The 42-year-old suffered extensive burns to her face and body after being burned in a rural area close to Eeasbrook in Urmston on Saturday.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is in police custody.

Det Insp Carl Gilbert said the woman's injuries were "extremely serious".

He said: "It is not clear at this stage exactly how the woman came by her injuries.

"If you saw the incident itself or have any information about it then please call us urgently."
