Reports of an attempt to abduct a three-year-old girl from a garden in Salford were a "misunderstanding", police have said.

Police were called on Friday to reports a man tried to take the girl from flats on Egerton Street in Patricroft.

Officers later found that the man had seen the girl running towards a road and was bringing her back.

Det Insp Ben Hart said the mother was "right to be concerned and right to report this to the police".

He said: "We have spoken to witnesses, viewed CCTV and made extensive enquiries to verify what has taken place [and] are now happy that this was a misunderstanding."
