Former Manchester United and England star Gary Neville has added another honour to those he earned as a player by getting an honorary doctorate.

Neville received the award from the University of Salford within sight of his former club's home.

The England assistant coach received a doctor of science award from Salford Business School.

The award cited his work in eco-friendly building design and his Sustainability in Sport Foundation.

The organisation promotes green issues with sport.

After the ceremony he said: "Plenty of people in life say 'you can't', but graduates should just ignore them and go and make their own mark on life."
