Two men have been charged with assault after former rugby league player Sean Gleeson was attacked outside a Wigan nightclub.

The 26-year-old from Wigan suffered a serious eye injury and retired from the game following the Ibiza Bar incident.

Terrence Riley, 24, of Haydock, Merseyside, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Lee Jones, 21, of Ashton-in-Makerfield, near Wigan, has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

Both are due to appear at Wigan Magistrates' Court on 27 June.

The attack happened outside the King Street venue in the early hours of 2 March.

He continues to receive treatment for his injury.

During his career, Gleeson played for Hull Kingston Rovers, Salford Red Devils, Wigan, Widnes and Wakefield.
