Plans for a parade to celebrate Rochdale's automatic promotion to League One have been announced.

The open top bus tour, from the Spotland stadium to Rochdale town centre on Tuesday, comes after Dale's 2-0 victory over Cheltenham in April.

Event host Rochdale Borough Council said the bus will leave the stadium at about 18:00 BST and arrive at the town hall about 15 minutes later.

Dale were relegated to League Two in 2012 after two seasons in League One.

'Thank fans'

Fans can gather along The Esplanade in the town centre before the bus reaches the town hall.

The council said the team will appear on the town hall's balcony at about 18:30 BST.

Speeches will be given and a trophy presentation will take place with the town's Mayor present.

Mark Widdup, director of economy and environment for the council, said: "Promotion to League One means a lot to the borough and we're hopeful of a large turnout.

"The manager, players and everyone connected with the club have worked really hard.

"They also want to thank the fans for their support."
