Man 'deliberately knocked off' moped in Rochdale

Brotherod Hall Road Police said the attack on the man was "not random"

A man has been left with serious leg injuries after being "deliberately knocked off" his moped and run over by a car in Rochdale, police have said.

The 23-year-old was hit by the black car on Brotherod Hall Road at about 20:00 BST on Wednesday.

Police said after he was knocked off, the car "drove directly over him".

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said officers believe the attack, which "could have led to the loss of life", was "not random".

Det Con Russell Clarke said the man was being treated in hospital and was "in considerable pain".

"Individuals who are willing to use a vehicle as a weapon in such an extreme manner need to be caught and brought to justice," he said.

"We are urging anybody who saw a vehicle driving erratically around the area to contact us."
