Pedestrian hit and killed on M61 motorway near Bolton

A man died when he was hit by a car while walking on the carriageway of the M61 motorway near Bolton.

Police believe the victim, thought to be in his mid-20s, attended a Tinie Tempah concert earlier in the evening at the 02 Apollo in Manchester.

Officers said the man was struck by a Skoda Octavia between Rivington North Services and junction six southbound at 23:20 GMT on Saturday.

The motorway was closed for a number of hours overnight, but has reopened.

Detectives have not yet identified the victim, who is described as about 5ft 5in (1.65m) tall with light brown hair.

Greater Manchester Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
