Detectives investigating the death of a man who was assaulted in Manchester city centre have released CCTV images of potential witnesses.

John Millett, 34, from Salford, known as Salford John, was found with head injuries in Deansgate at the junction of John Dalton Street on 24 January.

He was taken to hospital but died a week later.

Police said the people in the images were not in trouble, but they might be able to help the investigation.

Senior investigating officer Bob Tonge said: "Just before the assault we believe there was an incident outside the South nightclub and we know there were a number of people around at that time.

"I would appeal to the student population who were there to contact us."

A man has been charged with assault and affray, police said.
