Manchester police seize stun gun disguised as iPhone

Fake smartphone stun gun seized The officer searching the boy suffered a shock as he examined the handset

A stun gun disguised as a mobile phone has been seized from a 14-year-old boy in Manchester.

Police said the weapon, which looks like a black iPhone and emits a strong electric shock, was found when the boy was searched.

An officer suffered a shock as he examined it but was not seriously hurt.

A knife was also seized during the search, prompted after reports four teenagers were racially abusing a bus driver in Portland Street.

Greater Manchester Police said the fake smartphone has a silver strip along the top with two electrical points, from which the current is discharged.

The volume buttons appear to activate the device, the force added.

GMP said four male youths, which also included a 16-year-old and two aged 17, have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, possession of a bladed article and a racially-aggravated public order offence.

The other three were held on suspicion of racially-aggravated public order offences.
