A Rugby League player could lose an eye after he was attacked outside a nightclub in Greater Manchester.

Hull KR's Sean Gleeson was repeatedly punched in the face after a row with three men in Ibiza Bar, King Street in Wigan, about 04:00 GMT on Sunday.

Wigan-born Gleeson, 26, suffered serious injuries to his eye and eye socket. He remains in hospital for treatment.

Police have released CCTV images of three men they would like to speak to.

They said Gleeson was involved in a fight with one man before "others joined in".

Det Ch Insp Howard Millington said: "A young man has been left with serious, potentially life-changing injuries as he could lose his eye."

Gleeson signed for Hull KR last year but has yet to play this season following a string of injury problems.

He previously played for Salford, Wakefield, Widnes and Wigan, and has represented Ireland at international level.
