GMP Sports and Social Club fraud probe launched

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has launched an investigation into an alleged fraud of up to £10,000 at its sports and social club.

The force is looking into claims payments made to GMP Sports and Social Club by an insurance company were transferred for personal use.

The probe was launched when "internal concerns" were raised about alleged financial irregularities at the club used by serving and retired staff.

No one has been suspended, GMP said.

A GMP spokesman said: "We can confirm that GMP has received an allegation concerning financial irregularities within the GMP Sports and Social Club Ltd based at the Hough End complex."

"An investigation is now underway and it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this stage," he added.

GMP Sports and Social Club is based in the Hough End Centre, Mauldeth Road West, Chorlton.
