Woman dies after being hit by car in Stockport

A woman has died after being hit by a car in Greater Manchester.

The 35-year-old was crossing King Street West at the junction with Bengal Street in Stockport at about 17:45 GMT on Thursday.

She was hit by a Vauxhall Astra being driven north, a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said.

He said she had suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital where she died. No-one else was injured.

King Street West was closed from Mercian Way to Chatham Street for three hours while emergency services were at the scene.
