Oldham baby death: Mother Katarzyna Gacek on murder charge

A mother has appeared in court charged with murdering her seven-week-old son in Oldham.

Katarzyna Gacek, 24, of Roundthorn Road, is accused of killing her son Thomas Gacek last week. She is also accused of assault or ill treatment of a child.

Thomas died in the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital on 27 January.

Ms Gacek was remanded in custody by Oldham magistrates and will appear at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday.

Darren Butterfield, 35, of Ross Avenue, Chadderton, and Dawid Mokrzanowski, 26, of Hillside Avenue, Oldham, also appeared at Oldham Magistrates' Court charged with child neglect and face a crown court hearing on Tuesday.
