Mother killed in Oldham car crash

A woman driving with her young son in her car has died in a crash in Oldham.

The 22-year-old lost control of her silver mini Cooper and hit a group of trees on the A627, close to the junction with Elk Mill retail park just before 09:00 GMT on Saturday morning.

She suffered serious head and neck injuries and later died in hospital, Greater Manchester Police said.

Her 14-month-old son who was travelling in the car with her suffered cuts and bruises.

Sgt Paul Higgins said it was "an absolute tragedy" and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
