Manchester street attack man has 'life threatening' injuries

A man has been left with "genuinely life threatening" head injuries in a street attack in Manchester city centre, police have said.

The man, who is in his mid-30s, was found collapsed on Deansgate at the junction of John Dalton Street at about 04:15 GMT.

Police said he had been punched by a man, who fled in a white Volkswagen Polo. The car has since been recovered.

A man and a woman from Baguley have been arrested on suspicion of assault.
