Murder arrest after Salford and Withington 'drug' deaths

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after two deaths linked to drugs in Manchester and Salford.

Police were informed of the death of 60-year-old Peter Clark in Withington in July 2012. At an inquest, a verdict of accidental death was reached.

Officers attended a flat in Eccles, Salford on 12 January and found the body of Kenneth Chapman.

A 35-year-old man has since been held in connection with both deaths and remains in police custody.

A post-mortem examination to help establish Mr Chapman's cause of death was inconclusive, with further tests now under way.

Det Ch Insp Graham Brock said: "Although it is unclear exactly what has happened, we believe both deaths are drug-related.

"Following the initial investigation into the death of Kenneth Chapman we now believe that there may be suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Peter Clark in 2012."
