A man who was killed when he was hit by a tram in Manchester city centre has been named.

Dave Ball, 48, from Whitefield in Bury, Greater Manchester died when he was struck near Debenhams in Market Street at about 18:15 GMT on Saturday.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident but said nobody else was involved.

The tram network was temporarily closed while emergency services dealt with the scene.

After the incident, fans who were trying to get home from Old Trafford after Manchester United's win over Swansea were advised to avoid the city centre.
