Man dies and woman critically injured in Kearsley crash

A 24-year-old driver died and a passenger is in a critical condition following a traffic collision in Kearsley.

A red Volkswagen Golf was found overturned in Bolton Road at 11:10 GMT on Monday with the driver and passenger trapped inside.

Emergency services found the car had crashed into a lamp post at the side of the road.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

His passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and her condition is described as critical.

Greater Manchester Police said its officers were working to notify the families of the two people in the car and their inquiries were continuing.
