Police have identified the decomposing body of a young woman found in woods in Bolton two months ago.

Officers are now appealing for help to trace the final movements of 37-year-old Rebecca May from Redditch.

Ms May's body was found near Manchester Road, beside the River Croal, on 10 October.

Detectives are still unclear how she died but say there is no reason to believe anyone else was involved. Police have appealed for information.

She was seen by friends in Manchester on 31 August before travelling by train to Bolton on 1 September.

In the first week of September, Rebecca was witnessed on at least two occasions by the river in Raikes Clough, police said.

Det Insp Sarah May said: "I would ask anyone who may recognise the picture of Rebecca and who may remember seeing her either shopping in the town centre or down by the river to contact us."
