Taxi driver dies in Leigh road collision

A taxi driver has died and his passenger is critically injured after a road collision in Greater Manchester.

The silver Ford Mondeo taxi was in collision with a silver Vauxhall Astra on Twist Lane, Leigh, at 04:00 GMT.

The 59-year-old taxi driver died at the scene and his 23-year-old female passenger was taken to hospital, where she is in a critical condition.

The 34-year-old man driving the other car was also seriously injured, police confirmed.

Police are investigating how the crash happened and asking witnesses to contact them.
