A man ran into a service station and threw a large piece of raw bacon at an Asian attendant in Greater Manchester, police have said.

The man, who is described as white, then ran out of Pemberton Service Station, Ormskirk Road, Wigan, after the attack on 25 November.

Police said it was "racially motivated crime" due to the "connotations attached to the meat" and because an Asian man was targeted.

The attendant was alone at the time.

PC Roy Lunio said: "To target someone in this way, simply because of their religion or race, is utterly abhorrent and the offender should be ashamed of themselves."

"This is not a prank, this is not funny or a laugh, it is a very serious and cowardly thing to do," he added.

Officers said the offender ran off towards Orrell in Wigan.
