Wheels fall off ambulance in Bolton transporting patient

A patient in an ambulance was involved in an accident when the rear wheels fell off the vehicle.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed the wheels malfunctioned while operational last Friday evening.

The BBC understands the patient, Richard Greenhalgh, and his wife Margaret were taken to Royal Bolton Hospital by another ambulance.

A Trust spokeswoman said the "rear near-side twin wheels malfunctioned and came away from the vehicle."

It is understood that Mrs Greenhalgh suffered minor injuries in the accident.

"Patient and staff safety is a high priority for the Trust, and a full and thorough investigation has commenced into the circumstances of this incident."
