Girl sexually assaulted in Hyde alleyway

A teenage girl was sexually assaulted as she walked through an alleyway with two friends in Greater Manchester, police said.

The three girls, all aged 14, were in the passage between Lodge Lane and Bennett Street in Hyde at 22:20 BST on Friday when a man attacked one girl.

He dragged her to the ground and assaulted her before she freed herself, ran off and flagged down a police car.

The victim's friends ran to a nearby house to raise the alarm, police said.

Det Insp Richard Ennis said: "The brazen nature in which he has targeted a young girl in full view of her friends is of concern."

The offender is described as being in his late 30s or early 40s, about 5ft 8in (1.7m) tall, stocky and wearing a black bubble jacket.

He is believed to be a smoker, bald and had stubble, detectives said.
