A man has been critically injured following reports of a group of people fighting after some refused to leave a Manchester house party, police said.

Greater Manchester Police said fighting spilled on to Hillier Street North, Moston at around 01:45 BST on Tuesday.

The group dispersed before police arrived. A 41-year-old man was taken to hospital with bleeding on the brain and facial injuries.

Two men aged 19 and 20 were arrested on suspicion of assault.

Police believe there was a party at the victim's address and the fight broke out when a number of people who had been allowed in were later told to leave.

Ch Supt Russ Jackson described it as a complex incident, adding: "At the moment we believe a disturbance has occurred inside the address when a number of men, who had earlier been welcomed in, were asked to leave but refused to do so.

"This has spilled on to the street and ultimately resulted with the victim being violently assaulted and left with very serious, life-threatening injuries.
