Bolton man, 87, dies in hospital after attack in his home

An elderly man who suffered a stroke after being assaulted during a break-in at his home has died.

Frank Worsley, 87, was attacked after he was woken by an intruder at his house in Longfield Road, Daubhill, Bolton at around 00:40 BST on 3 August.

He was taken to hospital after suffering bleeding on his brain but died on Tuesday.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out later to determine the cause of his death.

In a statement, Mr Worsley's family described him as "an all-round good guy" who was "very popular in the community".

He had been married to Mary for 62 years until she passed away last year, they said.

He was also a regular speaker at the local Women's Institute and enjoyed amateur dramatics.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with robbery in connection with the break-in.
