Thief jailed for stealing from Greater Manchester patients
A thief who stole from patients at two Greater Manchester hospitals has been jailed for three years.
John McNeil, 24, was seen on CCTV at Salford Royal Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary in February.
He stole mobile phones and wallets from bedside tables and drawers. One of his victims was terminally ill with cancer and another died just weeks later.
McNeil, of no fixed address, admitted five counts of theft, at a previous hearing at Manchester Crown Court.
PC Steven Hughes said: "The victims were either patients at the hospital and therefore extremely vulnerable, or staff who work tirelessly to care for these people and who do not expect to find themselves a victim of crime after their shift.
"McNeil has repeatedly, deliberately and maliciously targeted these individuals, wandering the corridors and striking at any given opportunity".
