Police looking for a man wanted in connection with the murder of his ex-partner have released CCTV footage of a recent sighting of him.

Michael Cope, 28, is wanted over the death of Linzi Ashton, 25, who was found dead at her home in Westbourne Road, Winton, Salford on 29 June.

She died after suffering multiple injuries.

Mr Cope was seen buying food at a store on Atherton Road in Hindley, Wigan, at about 13:25 BST on Sunday.

Det Ch Supt Darren Shenton warned people not to approach Mr Cope as he could be armed.

He said: "We believe Cope is familiar with the canal pathways between Salford and Leigh and may have spent time near the canal and waterways in Hindley.

"He may have been sleeping rough and we would urge people to report any suspicious behaviour around outbuildings.

"Anyone who sees him should call the police immediately."

A post-mortem examination found Ms Ashton died as a result of pressure to the neck and multiple injuries.

A man has been charged with perverting the course of justice in relation to Mr Cope's disappearance.

Another man has been charged with assisting an offender, while a third man arrested on the same charge has been bailed pending further inquiries.
